Just a quick note to let you know that the Tony Hillerman Wordharvest conference has a few openings left for this fall. The conference will be held November 10 – 12 in Santa Fe, and the faculty is great this year. To me, the price, the faculty, the length of the conference, and the location make for a perfect combination.
This fall, Wordharvest has added expanded manuscript critiques, but hurry if you’re interested. The deadline is October 1st. I’ve attended 4 writer’s conferences in the past and participated in manuscript critiques at two of the conferences. I learned a great deal from those 20 minute critiques, but just as important, it allowed me to connect with someone already established in the writing community. For such a solitary profession, the need for networking when it comes time to publish is huge. Writer’s conferences are the best way to connect with others in the writing world – really the only way beyond taking classes. So, if you’re on the fence, go for it. Wordharvest, like other conferences, allows you to sign up for the full 3 days, or for shorter one day sessions. I hope to meet you there!
